Wenyen Gabriel is a South Sudanese-American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, after being a 5-star prospect in 2016, ranked as high as #14 on ESPN’s Top 100.
Gabriel has also played in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Gabe was moved on January 20, 2020, with Trevor Ariza and Caleb Swanigan to the Portland Trail Blazers for Kent Bazemore, Anthony Tolliver, and two future second-round selections.
To start the season, he went 0-for-3 from the field with one rebound, one assist, and a block in 13 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers, a 127–119 victory for the Trail Blazers.
Gabriel agreed to terms with the New Orleans Pelicans on November 30th, 2020, and is expected to report to that team the following day. A few days before the season began in 2021–22, he was released.
Gabriel became an affiliate player for the Wisconsin Herd in October of 2021.
Averaging 13.8 points, 47.5 percent shooting from the field, and 38.7 percent from outside the arc in 12 games while playing 25.8 minutes per game, he also grabbed 8.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.0 blocks.
Gabriel signed a 10-day deal with the Brooklyn Nets on December 21, 2021.
