Wayne Ellington is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the University of North Carolina from 2006 to 2009.

He chose to forgo his final season of college eligibility to declare for the 2009 NBA draft and was drafted 28th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Wayne Robert Ellington Jr. was born in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, on November 29, 1987, and he is an American professional basketball player.

Prior to attending the Episcopal Academy, Wayne Ellington attended Birdsboro High School in Pennsylvania. He went on to play college basketball at the University of North Carolina after graduating in 2006.

While playing for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, Wayne led his team to the national championships, where they defeated the Michigan Spartans 89–72.

All-tournament honors and the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player award are among the many honours he has received during his college basketball career.

The budding star chose to declare himself eligible for the 2009 NBA draft instead of finishing his senior year of college.

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Wayne as the 28th overall choice in the 2009 NBA draft, and he began his professional career there. He averaged 6.6 points per game and 2.1 rebounds in his first season with the team.
