National Basketball Association (NBA), a proficient basketball league founded in the United States in 1949 by the consolidation of two opponent associations, the National Basketball League (established 1937) and the Basketball Association of America (established 1946). In 1976 the NBA consumed four groups from the American Basketball Association (ABA), which disbanded that year.

League Growth and Membership

  • Pacific Division: Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings
