Multiple tornadoes were spotted in the New Orleans area on Tuesday evening, according to multiple forecasters and news outlets.
A large system was spotted near the Lower 9th Ward just after 7:30 p.m., according to storm footage captured by WDSU.
That tornado then crossed over to New Orleans East, and was making its way toward Slidell just before 8 p.m., according to reports. News outlets reported that the tornado caused “severe” damage in Arabi.
The tornado warning was called off for Orleans Parish before 8 p.m. Prior to that, a tornado touching the ground in Lacombe was reported by multiple outlets.
A tornado warning was issued for Orleans Parish and parts of St. Tammany and Jefferson parishes around 7 p.m., lasting until 8:15 p.m.
The region had been under a tornado watch for most of Tuesday due to a severe storm moving across Louisiana and toward Mississippi.
Forecasters expected the severe weather event to impact Baton Rouge the most, but sightings of tornadoes were not reported out of that area.
