Malik Monk is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.
During the spring and summer of 2015, Monk was a member of the Arkansas Wings Elite, a team that participated in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and the Nike Elite Youth Basketball Circuit (EYBL). On this circuit, he averaged 19.7 points per game.
After that, he took part in the 2015 Nike Global Challenge for the East squad. During that competition, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and averaged 22 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists per game.
Monk announced his decision to attend Kentucky on November 18, 2015, picking the school over Arkansas.
As a senior, he had a point-scoring average of 28.6 per game, an assist average of 4.4 per game, and a rebound average of 7.6 per game.
In 2016, Malik Monk participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, both of which he won, earning him the title of Co-MVP together with his colleague De’Aaron Fox from Kentucky.
Monk’s final high school game was on March 11, 2016, when he scored 19 points in a loss to Cabot High School in the 7A state championship game. Cabot High School won the game 59–49.
