The city of Chicago’s Simeon Career Academy was where Nunn received his education. Rick Majerus, who was the head coach of the Saint Louis University basketball team at the time, was the one who made him the initial scholarship offer for basketball.

Nunn named the universities of Illinois, Marquette, Memphis, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and UCLA as some of the colleges he was thinking about attending.

In recognition of the significant contributions made by Simeon throughout his career, the number 20 jersey he wore was retired during his senior year, along with the number 22 jersey worn by fellow senior standout Jabari Parker.

The only Wolverine basketball players to have their jersey numbers retired are Nunn, Parker, Derrick Rose, Bobby Simmons, and Benji Wilson. Nunn and Parker join Derrick Rose, Bobby Simmons, and Benji Wilson in this exclusive club.

With Nunn’s guidance, Simeon was able to win four state championships from the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).
