The Kansas City Royals selected Giambi in the sixth round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft. Giambi made his major league debut as a September call-up for the Royals in 1998. The Athletics acquired Giambi from the Royals in exchange for Brett Laxton prior to the 2000 season. Jason and Jeremy played together during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.
