D.J. Augustin is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns from 2006 to 2008. He was drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2008 NBA draft.
Freshmen aren’t usually expected to walk right into a collegiate team, but Augustin did just that for the Longhorns.
During the regular season, the point guard started all 35 games he was eligible for, averaging 14.4 points and 6.7 assists.
Augustin could have been forgiven for declaring for the 2007 NBA draft with his current form, but the young guy decided to stay another year to better develop his game.
His outstanding freshman season in college earned him a slew of awards. He was chosen to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team by both the Associated Press and the coaches.
Augustin was a member of the Charlotte Bobcats from 2008 to 2012. He made his NBA debut in a 96-79 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, earning 12 points and two assists in 25 minutes.
This came after the Bobcats selected him as the 9th overall choice in the 2008 NBA draft.
How good is DJ Augustin?
He’s averaging 19.7 points per game through three games on 56 percent shooting, including 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Augustin’s superb ball-handling skills, as well as his fast agility and Tony Parker-like ability to slice through the defense and score with contact, have all been on display.
