Dwight Howard is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He is an NBA champion, eight-time All-Star, eight-time All-NBA Team honoree, five-time All-Defensive Team member, and three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
He attended Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and played largely as a power forward. Over the course of 129 appearances, he had an average of 16.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, and 6.3 blocks per game.
During his senior year, Howard led his team to a record of 31–2 and won the state championship in 2004. He did this while averaging 25 points, 18 rebounds, 8.1 blocks, and 3.5 assists per game.
In the same year, he received numerous awards for being the best high school basketball player in the United States, including the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award, the Morgan Wootten High School Player of the Year Award, the Gatorade National Player of the Year, and the McDonald’s National High School Player of the Year honor. He was widely regarded as the best high school basketball player in the country.
Additionally, during that season, he shared the MVP award with J. R. Smith at the McDonald’s All-American Game.
Howard was recognized as one of the greatest McDonald’s All-Americans on January 31, 2012, earning him this title.
