D.J. Augustin is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He played college basketball for the Texas Longhorns from 2006 to 2008. He was drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2008 NBA draft.
Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on New Orleans in 2005, destroying hundreds of lives, but it couldn’t break the bond between D. J. Augustin and Brother Martin’s high school.
Prior to Hurricane, he helped lead the team to two state championships at Brother Martin.
Since his high school days, Augustin, an 18-year-old, had been a highly sought-after talent.
After the hurricane, the school retired Augustin’s No. 14 jersey, making him the first player in school history to have his number formally retired in any sport.
Furthermore, Hurricane Katrina forced D. J. Augustin’s family to flee New Orleans in 2005, notably in the city of New Orleans and the surrounding areas.
Although the family moved to Houston on a regular basis, other members of the family remained in Orleans, including cousins, an aunt, a grandpa, and his spouse’s parents.
He had no idea that he had left his homeland for eternity, but he would never live in New Orleans again, and he felt obligated to return to Houston to put the specks of his life back together.
